Knowledge Vault Data Integrity Audit

Overview

  • Project: Aloysius Productions Knowledge Vault
  • Status: Completed
  • Result: Success - All issues identified and resolved

Hypothesis

Data inconsistencies exist across the Knowledge Vault due to manual curation without automated validation, leading to broken references, stale content, and misleading information.

Approach

Systematic audit of all content pages using:

  1. Link validation (internal cross-references)
  2. Frontmatter consistency checks
  3. Content verification against source data
  4. Project status accuracy validation

Findings

Issue CategoryCountSeverityResolution
Stub pages with placeholder content3MediumPopulated with actual content
Incorrect project status metrics1HighUpdated project-status.md
Ghost project references2MediumRemoved invalid references
Missing index sections1LowAdded missing project sections
Inconsistent link formatting1LowStandardized link format
Frontmatter version mismatches2LowUpdated versions
Stale sync timestamps1LowUpdated timestamps
Missing cross-links1LowAdded bidirectional links

Root Causes Identified

  1. No cross-reference validation - References added without verifying target exists
  2. Manual sync without tooling - project-status.md manually maintained, drifts from source
  3. Stub creation without content sourcing - Pages created to fix 404s without actual content
  4. No frontmatter/status consistency checks - Version/status mismatches go undetected

Outcome

All 8 categories of issues resolved:

  • Stub pages populated with real content from source repositories
  • project-status.md corrected (Poker: 25% → 100% shipped)
  • Ghost references to GTD Web/iOS removed
  • projects/index.md updated with missing sections
  • Link format standardized across technical-debt.md
  • Version frontmatter synchronized
  • All timestamps updated to current date

Artifacts

Reusability

Reusable: Yes - Audit methodology can be applied quarterly to maintain vault health.
