Free Cloud Tier Strategy and Solopreneur Mesh Architecture

Overview

  • Project: Infrastructure Planning
  • Status: Active — evaluation phase
  • Concept: Hybrid-cloud architecture combining “Always Free” tiers with strategic trials

Consolidated Provider Matrix (2026)

ProviderTypeResourcePrimary Use Case
Oracle CloudAlways Free4 ARM Cores / 24GB RAMMain Docker Host (CRM, InvoiceNinja)
VultrAlways Free1 vCPU / 1GB RAM / 2TB BWMedia Relay, Public VPN Exit Node
GCPAlways Freee2-micro / 1GB RAMLightweight Automation, Monitoring
Linode (Akamai)60-Day Trial$100 CreditBuild Server, Large Data Migration
DigitalOcean60-Day Trial$200 CreditStaging, Stress Testing

Linode Key Details

  • No “Always Free” VPS — trial only ($100/60 days)
  • Free inbound data transfer (good for staging/migration)
  • Predictable fixed monthly billing after trial
  • GPU plans excluded from trial credit

Architecture: The “Solopreneur Mesh”

Tailscale Glue

Install Tailscale on home lab, Oracle VM, and Vultr instance. Creates secure private Tailnet across all nodes.

Deployment Strategy

  • Vultr as streaming proxy (VDO.Ninja/OBS relay) — 2TB bandwidth avoids home network exposure
  • Oracle ARM as main Docker host — runs Quartz-scheduler.net for orchestration
  • Linode as one-time “Launch Accelerator” — heavy .NET/Remotion builds on dedicated CPU
  • Home Lab as persistent storage — eventual NAS migration target

Content Pipeline

  1. Write content in Obsidian (Home Lab)
  2. Push to private Git repo
  3. GitHub Codespaces (free 60h/mo) builds site
  4. Deploy to DigitalOcean App Platform (free static) or Cloudflare Pages

Critical: “Day 55” Protocol

Set calendar reminders for Day 55 of each trial:

  • Decommission all paid instances
  • Migrate data to permanent Oracle Always Free or Home Lab storage
