Obsidian Learning Plan

Overview

A structured learning curriculum for mastering Obsidian, tailored for a solopreneur with a technical background using Marp, Quartz, and automation tooling.

Phase 1: Core Foundation (Days 1-3)

Goal: Bridge existing Markdown files into a functional vault.

  • Source of Truth Migration — Point Obsidian to existing Quartz folders
  • Properties & YAML — Master frontmatter for standardized metadata (status:, project:, client:)
  • Linking Logic — Move beyond folders; use wikilinks and aliases for flexible naming
  • Command Palette — Ctrl+P as primary interface for automation-minded users

Phase 2: Structural Intelligence (Days 4-7)

Goal: Transition from “files in a folder” to a “Knowledge Graph.”

  • Maps of Content (MOCs) — Hub notes linking related project files; keeps Quartz site navigable
  • Templater Plugin — Dynamic templates with JavaScript (system dates, variable prompts, shell commands)
  • Dataview Plugin — “SQL for Obsidian”: LIST FROM #project WHERE status = "active"
  • Canvas — Visual process mapping and architecture diagrams

Phase 3: Automation & Orchestration (Days 8-14)

Goal: Integrate Obsidian with development and automation stack.

  • Advanced URI — Trigger note creation/content append from automation scripts
  • Claude Code Hooks — Auto-document code changes and commit messages into dev log
  • Git Integration — Obsidian Git plugin for automated backups to self-hosted repos
  • Remotion Pipeline — Track React-based video components via structured notes

Phase 4: Long-Term Scaling (Beyond Day 14)

Goal: Refine for consulting and dogfooding.

  • Periodic Notes — Weekly/monthly reviews for KPI tracking
  • Self-Hosted Sync — Obsidian LiveSync or CouchDB for cross-device sync without third-party clouds
  • Metadata Menu — Structured UI for complex data (contacts, billing rates)
