Purpose

Meridian consolidates capabilities from Walkie-Talkie, haven, SoundBoard, and Eliza into a single encrypted communication system. It provides:

  • End-to-end encrypted messaging via @ap/crypto (target: AES-256-GCM)
  • Audio stream processing and voice messaging via @ap/audio
  • BIP-39 passphrase-based key exchange for human-readable offline key negotiation
  • Intelligent auto-reply generation via @ap/eliza-engine
  • Three-view React UI: Messages, Encryption, Settings

Status

Current Phase: v0.1 Active Development (as of 2026-02-15)

MetricState
CI/CDConfigured — security workflow connected
Tests14 passing — 3 modules covered, components untested
ComplianceFull — all ops-core items satisfied
GAS InfrastructureActive — PROJECT.md, config.json, 7 codebase docs

Focus for Next Cycle

  1. Core communication protocol scaffold
  2. Encryption wrapping around @ap/crypto
  3. Audio processing integration from @ap/audio
  4. BIP-39 passphrase exchange mechanism
  5. Eliza integration for intelligent responses

Key Decisions

DecisionRationale
React 19 + TypeScript + ViteModern toolchain for secure UI development
Encryption wrapping @ap/cryptoStandardized cryptography across the AP platform
BIP-39 passphrase exchangeHuman-readable key exchange for offline scenarios
MIME fallback from audio moduleGraceful degradation for non-audio contexts
Eliza for intelligent responsesNatural language interface for communication

Technical Debt

These are critical issues identified during the v0.1 audit (2026-02-15):

ItemPriorityNotes
Stub encryption (base64, not AES-256-GCM)CriticalUI claims AES-256-GCM but uses btoa()
No transport layerCriticalMessages exist only in React state
Math.random() for key materialCriticalMust replace with crypto.getRandomValues()
UI claims false encryptionHighMust resolve before any user-facing use

Reusable Patterns

PatternNotes
Cryptographic key exchangeBIP-39 passphrase generation and validation — adaptable for any key negotiation
Audio stream processingMIME-based content negotiation — generalizable for multimedia handling
Peer-to-peer messagingEncrypted message relay — applicable to any P2P protocol
Intelligent response generationEliza pattern-based suggestions — reusable for any conversational interface

  • Walkie-Talkie — audio communication ancestor
  • cipher (@ap/crypto) — encryption dependency
  • audio (@ap/audio) — audio processing dependency
  • Eliza / eliza-engine — intelligent response component
